50 hp merc wiring

I have a book for my 40hp merc and have orderd manual for my 50 hp but dont want to wait 2 weeks for delivery can some one tell me if the1977 40 hp and th 1977 50 hp ignition wiring was the same if so then i can use wiring diagram in my manual

Is your 40 a 2 cylider? Is your 50 a 4 cylinder? A four cylinder has more wires from the stator to the switchbox and more wires to the coils than a 2 cylinder.
