50 hp Mercury - temperature sender damaged?

On my 50 hp Merc the horn in my remote control was sounding, so i checked the temperature switch. The switch is installed next to the spark plug.
I detected that the cable that comes out the sender has connection to ground.
So does that mean the sender is damaged?
Is it easy to replace, and what will the costs be?

Thanks for your help!

If the engine is stone cold and you measure continuity between that wire and ground, the sender is indeed bad. Go to Mercury Marine web site, click on Parts Express, enter your serial number and you can see the cost of the part. It's not difficult to change.

You understand that the wire needs to be disconnected when you make that measurement between the free end and ground -- don't you?
