50 hp merc ser #1479967what year and where is the water intake..I cant see anywhere where water is allowed to enter the lower unit

Look at the trim tab there should be holes drilled in it for water. I had one it was a great motor. http://store.oldmercs.com/category_s/820.htm

I assume you want to run the motor on muffs. Cover the water intake ports on both sides marked the in photo.
