50 MERC SERIAL #,WHERE IS IT

I bought a 16 foot Peterborough with I think a 1979 50 mercury outboard with thunderbolt ignition.I want to find out where the s/n # is and what the value in canadian $ is.The engine has 125 compression in 3 cylinders and 120 in the bottom cylinder and runs perfect as if it were new.Also how do I find out about Peterborough boats when there is no Peterborough website.Who is it made by????Thank-you for all your help folks.

I have a 76 Mercury Thunderbolt engine and my serial number is on the side of the engine that the fuel pump is on. It is on a silver plate above the fuel pump. Oh yeah, be sure to take the casing of the engine off first, it is on the inside.

my '70 thunderbolt serial# is on the transom<br />bracket, but IF yours is a '79, the guys have<br />already pointed you in the right direction.
