Re: 50hp 2stroke Yammie 2005

My advice:
1. Make sure the outboard RPM at wide open throttle (WOT) is the recommended (according to Owner's manual). If You do not have a tachometer that would be a thing to get so You know You run at optimal RPM at WOT.
2. You can, if you want, mount the outboard slightly higher on transom to get less drag in water from lower unit. That should give You some speed increase if You want that.
3. Experimenting with varoius props (different pitch and or diameter and steel prop instead of aluminium) could get You some more speed if that is what You want. Or if it is better acceleration You aim at You could experiment to get a prop more suited for that with Your boat and outboard combination.

The idea to squeeze more horsepower out an outboard (unless it is used for racing purposes) is probably not wise considering warranty and general wear. If You want more hp try to get a 60 hp or similar instead. Slightly more weight but if Your boat can handle 70 Yamaha 2-stroke it is same weight as 60 hp and that will give You 20 more hp and a real increase in force and speed. It will be cheaper and easier in most cases then try to "enhance" a 50 hp to have more hp than it was built for.

What would be primary purpuse to get more hp in Your case? Better speed? Better acceleration?

Good luck!
