Iv'e got a 1992 3cyl merc that seems to be leaking water internally on the bottom cylinder. Plug looks noticeably lighter in color than the other 2 cylinders and has water droplets on it. Has anyone had a similar problem and if so what can be done to prevent a burn down.

Thanks

If that model has a head gasket, remove old one, clean both mating surfaces and install a new one, torque it to factory specs..If it's a vase-closed cylinder model seems there's an internal micro water leak around cylinder and head.

I doubt there is a head gasket !----Bottom crankshaft seal could be leaking

No head gasket on this model. Per the mercury parts fiche there is no bottom seal either. Serial # on the engine is 0D163098. Could it possibly be the gasket under the exhaust plate?

I would say there has to be a seal on a spinning crankshaft !!!----Best look at the parts manual again.----Part # is 26-41953

What is a vase-closed cylinder?????? Sea need to learn your motors as the only Mercury built 2 stroke with head gaskets are the V-6 motors. As Racer posted its either the lower crankshaft seal or divider plate gasket leakage.....

Hey Faz, Carbkid has already said that there's no head gasket, so what's the point in posting again? Besides don't work with Merc Jurassic models to know how they were built, quite different from the newer ones I do work with which have head gsakets...

Right, faulty gaskets found on exhaust covers, divider plate may leak water droplets inside any combustion chamber and even rust plug head. Torque cover, probably with compressed gasket already. If still with same issue, replace it, take advantage to clean all internal water paths and cover mating surfaces.

I don't consider 5-7 year old motors to be Jurassic models......still like to know what a vase cylinder is??

I think you can use the block to put flowers in.-----Put the sparkplug in , add water and put out on the porch.----Add flowers.
