50hp electric start evinrude reverse issues

My 50 horse Evinrude motor worked before I took it into the shop in reverse I brought it home put it back on my boat and all it does is Chatter now I thought it might have been the cables but I disconnected the cable from the shifter lever and tried to do it manually from the shifter lever and it just jumps back and forth any ideas from anyone out there

No it is a 1985 2 stoke 50 hp model number E50BELCIC

You are sure it is not a 1981 model ?----Check the gear oil.-----I would remove lower unit and check shift rod height.

The title says 1985 i I just changed the oil and set the shift rod to just a little over 53 centimeters

The model # tells me it is a 1981.----Time to take the lower unit apart for inspection and repair as needed.

The c and the i represents 1981. Engines don't have titles, are you looking at your boat title?

In some states a motor is considered an item that needs to be titled !

Its tilted apparently thru the years the information on the title got changed
