Greetings, [model# 507x9B / serial# 1571]

Question #1 - When I run my outboard the water coming through the exhaust holes just sputters out; when I go to full throttle the flow increases a little but still sputtering. Do I need to replace the impeller?

Question #2 - when I increase speed from idle, the motor starts kicking until I plane out. Is this a problem caused by overheating?

While you will probably have more success having your question answered in the Outboards forum, I can you quickly that the output of the water is normal. The Force motor does not have a tell tale output that is steady. the holes are acutally exhaust relief holes and the spray or sputter is normal. If you are in questionas to when you impeller was changed, you should do it anyway.

As far as the kicking is concerned, the force 50 I owned did this too. It was rough in the mid RPMS and then it just kicked in. You may try to richen you idle mixture to see if it smoothens out. If I am not mistaken it is in the transition point where the butterfly opens and the main jet kicks in. I sold mine before I resolved it so I do not know decisively what the fix is..

Hey thanks for the advice Rogerwa,

Glad to hear the water output is normal. Also, just a quick question on the gas:eek:il ratio. The guy I bought the boat from said to use 6 oz of oil per 5 gallons of gas. I've always heard that the ratio was 2.5 oz of oil to 1 gal of gas. Can you shed any light on this? Thanks again...

I don't know the amount per gallon. It's 50:1 so just look on the 2-stroke oil bottle and it will tell you..

Also, use the best marine 2-stroke oil you can get. Also, you may want to look at doing a decarb each fall. The motors tend to carbon up. I used to go through a couple sets of plugs a year..
