50hp force water pump disc purpose?

I just got done installing all new seals and a water pump on a 88 force 50hp, i seen in the diagram a water pump disc, which was not on it when i tore it apart. My question is what is it's purpose, and it is needed. Thanks in advance.

The kit was made for a bunch of different motors.
Not all used the same parts so they included parts that you might or might not need??
Just hang onto the parts that you don't need.
