hi guys still need some help, i unbolted everything on this 1988 mariner lower unit it has droped about 3/4 of a inch and thats it it wont go no more WHY???????:mad:, i bought a manual today and i see nothing else to undo i went to a local marine store and they say its a japanies model, so i undid the linkage up top also nothing, the shift rod comes apart inside from what the book says so i wiggled it up top and you can hear it inside the mid section, ive put the linkage in nuetral and forward and it went real easy both ways the book said to try both ways, i dont know what more to do,can someone please please give me some help or any ideas on what to do next, should i tip upside down and spray liquid wrench in the rod and let it soak for a while, i looked at a 1993 mariner 50hp lower unit on ebay and it has some kind of nipple looking thing on top of the main rod is there something maybe attached to that,?? with the l u being 3/4 or so already down it might be a lttle less not much i have a hard time beleaving its froze,, please guys help a fellow boater out please im going goofy, LOL thxs you guys are awsome...;).. tom in Longview washington

did you remove the trim tab and remove the nut hidden underneath it?

yep ,, the lower unit has droped about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch then stoped, ive got it at a shop right now and they tell me that those years are notorious for sticking in the powerhead ind if he cant get it out the motor is toast, i dont beleave that it runs great it needs a new impeller, they said to cut the shat and work on getting the rod out of the power unit that way, why couldnt i spray liquid wrench on the shaft or something like that and try to loosen the rust or corosion they said it looks like its never been off, o well this month has been awfull for me when its come to the motors , im still haveing problems with my omc115 o well im about to blow them all up together, sure is hard to find a good honest mechanic who is fair with a person anybody know of a good mechanic by Longview washington or surrounding area Oregon ect..im just about warn out on all this stuff wifes about to put me out with the dog and cat, might not be so bad if i could get some sleep. LOL any suggestions would be great thxs again guys.. tom gore
