50hp thdblt 500 rectifier shorted

will the stator still charge if rectifier is not grounded? i unbolted from the motor case and all fire came back. can i see if stator is chargingwhile engine is runnig by pulling battery cabel off? if not how can i tell without meter?

The rectifyer has to be grounded for it to work properly.

smaner; DO NOT remove batt. cables while eng. is running ,this is a NO NO.you will blow something electrical!!check the rectifier out of circut,its a full bridge rectifier (4 diodes) any good serv. manuel will explain how to check it with a meter.
