Ok so I have a 1989 Bayliner with this engine on it. I can't seem to find a Killswitch anywhere. I think this button in photo might be it near ignition? Push to kill? If this isn't it can someone tell me where it's at or a good way to shut down engine in dumbed down terms, thanks.

Anyways when I hit the key the starter turns, not sure if it's turning fast enough. But I don't really hear the motor trying to start so I'm guessing something is wrong. I found 2 wires disconnected but can't tell where they go or what there for.

Don't see your picture. I don't see a kill switch on the diagram although I see an interlock switch between the starter solenoid and ignition switch (yellow wire from solenoid yellow black to terminal yellow to ignition switch).

Is the motor a 1989? Need to know what type of ignition: Battery CD Ignitions, Magnapower II Ignitions, Capacitive Discharge Ignitions with Alternator. Check out ignition toubleshooting guides (link below). I would start with a good battery. Check compression on the cylinders. See if you're getting fuel. Get a volt ohm meter. Get a wiring diagram.

I'll try to look up serial number but here a photo in case you already have easy access to that.

Also I might have found part of the problem starting it? I tried squeezeing the gas bulb and it was really hard so I assumed that was because the carb bowl was full of fuel? But I dropped the bowl anyway and it was empty?? So I followed fuel lines to a fuel pump/filter which I have posted a photo of as well. I then reconnected fuel line to it with it off and the gas barely comes out. Any ideas?

Ok so whoever owned it before had the gas lines put in backwards on it so swapped them and now there's gas in float bowl. Does the kill switch stopped it from trying to start all together? Or does it just turn the motor off?

The starter is spinning but I don't know for sure if the kill switch is on or off/working. The engine has over 100 compression on both plug holes. I put a spark plugs on the engine block and turned key, didnt see any arking but first time I've tried that test before.

Anyways I don't have a Manuel or anything so I really don't know how to tell if the kill switch is right and I feel like that's the first thing I need to figure out.

Hey there.. .:welcome:

You should be able to post pics directly now... after 3 posts you can..
There is a size limit too though.. I've had best luck if pics are ~400kb or less...

Not a pro here, but....

That button to the left of the text saying emergency lanyard must be in place... etc...
That is the kill switch...
If it's hooked up properly, then yes.. Right now, as it sits, it will not have spark...

You need to put the lanyard on so that button is depressed..
When it's depressed, it allows spark to the spark plugs.
If you fall overboard, and the lanyard is pulled off, the button releases and it kills the spark to the plugs, shutting down the engine...

It WILL prevent you from starting if lanyard is not attached there..

Again, this is all presuming that it is wired properly, and is working like it's supposed to...

Hope it helps!!

Yup missing the kill switch.
Try unplugging from the back of the switch and jumping the 2 wires.

The blue and green wires are for trim and tilt. Blue-up Green is down.

If the ball doesn't get hard the diaphragm in the pump might be bad?
Or the ball is bad?

Slow turning: clean the starter, load test the battery and clean the connections.
Do a compression test. If it's off?? that can cause slow turning.
Also the bearings in the lower, if rusted? they can cause slow turning.
Do a spark test once the switch has been jumped or replaced.

Lower unit: don't remove the screw on the side of the drive.
It's a pivot pin and if removed you'll be removing the drive to fix it.
