I have a '54 7.5 Fleetwin that I'm going through. Cleaned out the carb and it starts fine and runs at higher rpm pretty well, although a little surgey. I will do the carb kit, points, coils, wires, and plugs, etc. My concern is that it in neutral it occasionally does a fairly violent jerk. I don't know if it is possible for both cylinders to do a dead miss like that simultaneoulsy or not. It seems worse than that, like something binding. Water pump, maybe? I know I should do that too, anyway. Also seems to have a water leak in the lower end. Any place in particular to look on this model, or just re-do the whole bottom end?

I also picked up a '57 Big Twin Electric 25930 at a yard sale for $20. It has enough compression to about give me a heart attack to just make it turn over and it makes sparks. Once I weld up a frame for it to get it mounted in a barrel I'm going to give it a try. My stupid question: do I use a 12-volt battery?

Any suggestions or leads on other threads will be appreciated. No time pressure on these projects. I don't mind spending some money, but don't want to throw good money after bad. Thanks

TD is right, you can use a 12v battery. Just don't stay on it while cranking or you'll smoke the starter. If it's tuned right, it should fire and run pretty quickly after engaging the starter.
