53 or 55 Johnson 5.5 Come and get it

Hello All,

I have a Johnson 5.5 hp. I believe it's a 53 or 55. Red is the color. I had it running by placing gas in the carb, so I know it's not locked up. But needs some tuneup work.

If the red paint is original, it would be a '56, '57' or '58. Look also at the exhaust port, located halfway down the midsection. If it has a rounded look to it, the motor would be the '56, or later, engine.

These motors were painted green prior to 1956 and the exhaust port angles down from the back of the powerhead, until it reaches the exit point. It is then shaped in a straight, horizontal "cut."
