I have been working on my '76 Chrysler 55 hp outboard. I replaced the stator, the ignition switch (w/ key), the Magnapower Ignition Box and cleaned out the carb.

It fires up and idles great, so... I took it out on the water. Problem is, when I throttle up it bogs down and runs steady like that for a minute or two (real slow). It then starts to power up then dies. It floods so I had to wait a couple minutes. It then restarts easily and idles well. Then again, I throttle up and after a bit wants to power up then dies/floods.

I had about half a tank (3 gallons of gas/oil) in it from last August. I put another 2 gallons of fresh gas/oil in it.

Any idea on what is causing the issue? Thanks!!

If it has spark at both plugs and it suppose to have as you have replace the CD box, clean the carb and check the fuel pump diaphragm.

Sounds you have a fuel delivery issue.

I will get the fuel pump diaphram replaced. Anything else I should look at... do you think it could be the carb (adjustments)? I totally rebuilt the card and think it I have it set to factory specs,,,

The carb has only three adjustment possibilities.

Float high adjustment should be parallell with the casting body when turned upside down.
The float drop should be soo the float just do not touch the main jet (there is a distance from lower part of float to the surface where the bowl seal to the carb but I do not have it in my mind right now).

Air/fuel mixture screw should be 1-1,5 turn out from lightly seated, but there you have to fine tune it when warmed up and in gear in water.
Do not adjust it leaner then 1 turn out even if it idles better with that setting.
Leaner setting can cause melted pistons.

You make sure the high speed jet is clear?
A tiny piece of dirt can cause this problem.

Check the fuel for water?
Install a filter between the carb and the pump.
Fram G-2 G-3 G-12

Check the fuel line connections and the tank vent.
