when i removed this water pump, i noticed there was some pitting inside the housing. is this normal? if not, can it be smoothed up inside, or do i have to replace the housing? doesn't seem like it would work too good in this condition. jdman

If the pump housing is pitted, replace with a new one.

Where in the housing is it pitting. Just a thought but , if it's on the impeller contact surface, you might be able to hone it out.

it is pitted where the impeller contacts. not too bad, just a little rough. i was thinking i could maybe smooth it up with some scotchbrite. those little boogers are fairly expensive ($70) also, where can i get a new pin that fits in the impeller. i took this thing apart some time back and seems i've lost the pin. thanks, jdman

You might consider filling the pits with some JB Weld and then smoothing it up.

c/6

Hooty

wouldn't a hardware store have something that you could fabricate a new pin with.

DO NOT Hone it out or use JB weld to fill in the pits,if you hone it out it will not have the same sucking power as a new one and cause your moto to over heat and if you use JB weld it will tear up the new impeller. The PIn your looking for try a True Value hardware store
