Just throwing this issue out to the brain trust to see if I've come to the same conclusion.
I'm working with a 55hp Chrysler 559HG 6027. Pretty sure it's a 1976. Recently replaced most of the fuel pump, carb float (single carb), and new spark plugs (got rid of the surface gaps). Did all this because engine was experiencing flooding issues. That seems to be resolved. But we're right back to where we were as far as the bottom cyl not firing consistantly. Both coils get nice and warm to the touch and spark is being produced by both plugs. Compression numbers are pretty equal (146 top and 139 bottom if I remember correctly). Have not been able to pull the flywheel but dont think we need to because we're pretty sure the issue is a major problem with the bottom piston.
We believe that the bottom piston might be scored, warped, and/or a seal has gone bad. After 5 minutes on the muffs or in a bucket we notice a significant amout of gas/water coming out the overflow in leg. Assuming this is due to the missing cyl. Are we on the right track here?! Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!
