I have a 1973 Chrysler 55hp outboard that I can not get started. I have taken the carb. apart and cleaned it, put new plugs in (plenty of spark). I am getting plenty of fuel in the carbs but it will not start. What would you recommend I do next? I was thinking of rebuilding the carb or checking the timing. Thanks for any help. Also, it ran fine last year and I have not had it out this year yet.

Re: 55hp chrysler outboad help

If you do in fact have good spark on both cylinders, and proper fuel delivery, the only thing left is compression. Perform a compression test, and let us know what you get. you can rent the comp tester from the auto parts stores for free.
If you have not messed with timing since you had it running last year, then it should be fine.
When you re-assembled the carb, did you adjust the mixture screw on the front of the carb correctly? 1 turn out from lightly seated.
