I have a 1970 Chrysler 55hp with an electric start. I was wondering if you guys could let me know how I would go about "pull starting" this motor should my battery die? Thanks

Re: 55hp Chrysler, Pull Start?

Do everything you would do to start it electrically, then remove the hood and wrap a rope around the top of the flywheel--there should be a rope ring attached there. Use about three turns of stout rope with a handle. An ols lawnmower rope is good. Brace a foot against the splashwell or transom and give it a good pull. Should start first or second try if engine is well tuned.

If the engine is magneto ignition, this will always work. If it is battery and points ignition, there must still be enough "juice" in the battery to charge the coils.
