Hey guys, I'm back again! So my 55hp Chrysler model 555HF single carb motor started to detonate again! If any remember my last issue, the upper piston was actually melting due to improper carb adjustment/too lean. I rebuilt the carb, took it out on the lake, and it ran great. Took it out again this weekend, and lost power again. I checked both spark plugs only to find little balls of melted aluminum jammed in them! So the motor still has good compression, the tops of the pistons look a little pitted but ok, the heads same as the pistons. Now when I rebuilt the carb I followed the instructions on adjustment to the T. The only thing that looked slightly different than original parts in the kit was the main needle and seat, it was just a newer looking style. The kit did not include a new idle needle and seat, so I just replaced the seat with another. The kit did not include a new float, so I reused the old one, and adjusted it per instructions. Am I missing something on how to richen up the mixture? all the addjustment is in the idle screw and main jet which is controlled by the float on this carb right? What am I missing? Oh, and I am running supreme gas with 50:1 ratio could this be the problem?
