Re: 57 Big Twin choke solenoid pics??

Ok so here are my two choices that I see me having to get myself a kill switch... Keep in mind Im a rookie with these old motors. One... I found a new choke solenoid with plunger and spring but its $230.00 Option Two... I dont know really how hard or time consuming getting to the magneto is but once there run two wires from the points and wire me a kill switch that way. Can the simplex pull start portion be pulled off all together? Ive been told the spring tension is high and to not tear it apart unless you are familiar?? I'm just trying to weigh options to ultimately have a kill switch rather than manual choke. I have my Ken Cook service and owners manuals but just want thoughts before I delve into the ol gal. Any thoughts for be fantastic, thank you!!

the choke solenoid is simple. You can probably advertise for one on www.aomci.org. The kill switch is just as you describe. One wire to each set of points then connected to a key switch or button. If you do use a key switch get one for magnetos. O'Reilly auto parts sells one reasonable, but you have to do a slight mod to it. Not hard at all. I use them all the time.

Thanks Freddy for the input. Since I live in Washington and our summer is already on its last leg I think I might just stick to manual choke for time being but still wire up a kill switch then come fall/winter I can pull the top of the motor apart and connect my wires to the points. I want to at least go out a couple times:)

So I found a whole bunch of solenoids on ebay (NOS) but I still cant locate a part number for my Big Twin #25028 (1957). They are all OMC Evinrude/Johnson but tons of different pt.#'s. ANy help would be great

Part numbers:

376806 or (superseded by 385554)

I'm not sure if the part number is a complete assembly with plunger, boot, etc.
