The prop on this motor is pretty beat up. Did a search on the iboats site and came up with two blade & three blade prop for the motor.

It now has a two blade prop.

Should I consider a three blade or just stick to the two?

Would three bades stress out the gears?

Re: '57 CD-14, 5.5hp Johnson Prop Question

A two or three blade prop would have no affect on gears at all. The pitch of those blades would have an affect on engine RPM. This is to say weather the engine lugs or over revs, neither condition is desirable. Now banging up the prop no matter how many blades or what the pitch might stress the gears a bit, (a lot). I would just replace the standard two blade prop and call her good. The good thing is they don't cost a bunch and if you need another, odds are if a fishin resort store has a prop for sale it will be that one.
