Dropped my engine on the stand and broke the large handle that the tiller handle mounts on.
It broke in three places,an alternative to welding it in three places . Would be to searce ebay for the part. Would anyone know if the 10hp 15hp 18hp and 25hp EVENRUDES OR Johnsons are interchangable? I donot know the name of this part, it consists of the large handle at the front of the engine that allows you to carry it in the horizontal position. Thanks guys. Dom

well, your year of evinrude should be interchangable with the 10hp of 56-62 and 15hp of 1956. The best thing to do is find a casting number on your part and go from there.

Bingo...freddyray's right on track. Post a wanted on the free classifieds at www.aomci.org
I think the handle and swivel tube are integral parts, but can't remember for sure. I think the part size is unique to 15 and 18hp motors of the era.

Better be mighty careful what you buy. They are NOT all alike, and especially the 10hp is different. The 1957 18hp (and I think, but not positive, the 1958) number is 376837. 1959 number is 377630.

It is called a steering bracket.

Yeah, the 56 part doesn't have the stop that the idle screw on the vertical throttle gear contacts. Otherwise they are the same. I don't know what the differences are for the later years.

Looking and measuring between my 56 10 horse and my 57 18 horse they appear to be identical. Except for the above mentioned idle stop.

Edit; Actually now I come to think about it, I got my replacement steering bracket for my 56 10 horse off of a 56 15 horse FD-10. And those were in fact identical.

In 58 the 10 horse went through some changes and lost some weight. I don't know if all the changes were in the lu or not.

Cheers......................Todd
