Hi all, I just purchased my first reno project and I was hoping someone could id the serial number for me The registration says Starcraft 1970, but the serial number is 59-5270. The seller had no idea what year it was, he just knew the motor wasn't original.

Welcome aboard, Jim.

My Starcraft from 1966 has a serial number beginning with 66. Not sure when SC changed the serial numbering. but later boats from them didn't have the year as the first two digits and in 1972 all builders began to issue Hull Identification Numbers (HIN). HINs ID the year of manufacture with the last two digits.

I'll hazard a guess that somewhere while passing from owner to owner that original paperwork was lost and the last two numbers were erroneously used as the year by the state.

How long is she?

Its likely a pre-1960, so probably 1959 is a good guess....

By 1960, Starcraft no longer put lines on the bow and transom caps. The port transom end cap has the stern light mounted to it.....

The side chines also changed by 1960 as did the smooth sides for the lapstrake look....

Nice project.

FYI, it never had a deck (floor), the bare hull ribs showed. Not sure, but it looks to be missing the splashwell, pretty sure it had 1 and it should be put back.

Thanks guys! 15'9" is her length, and I was thinking about a splashwell as there seemed to a a lot of extra room in the stern. Is there a good place I can see pics to forge one or a good parts depot? I haven't had much luck on an internet search.

Jim - Take a look at this brochure link for 1958, our 1959 brochure link are only two magazine ads and don't have much detail. I'm thinking you may have a Jupiter with bench seats. Many SCs back then didn't have splashwells. including Jupiters. Compare measurements for your boat against the brochure and you may hit a match.

Thanks! I'll have to grab some detailed measurements and find out which model it is. Enjoy the water- it's finally warming up here :)

Found the original tag buried behind a bunch of ropes and a pile of pine needles :). 15' Jet so at least I know where to start.
