Correct. Mod 609HA.... thank you for response. 74 sounds right, my father purchased it while I was off serving in the Navy. Plan to spend the summer getting it running. Starts at idle, but dies off as throttle is opened up. Again, thank you so much!

Clean the carb/s
If my memory's right you have 2 carbs?
They only made the 60 for a short time.
74-76 and again in 84

Yes, It's the less regarded two cylinder, not the more robust 3 cylinder... I am looking for possible parts suppliers, but as you know, it is a very hit and miss situation.

The twin carbed 60Hp engine was a good one.
The poor thing was the Mag II ignition it was equipped with.
During warrenty Chrysler provided a retro fit kit and this was the Prestolite system and later 55Hp engines had this from factory.

This engine has a lot of torque and the smaller gear house at the early engines can be ripped out if your are not careful.

Jerryjerry says it was 60Hp in 1974-76 but from my litterature it was rated 60Hp up until 1978 then it was back in 1984 as 60Hp.
In 1977-78 Chrysler made a 65Hp with the same block but a larger gear house.
Among these years there was a 55Hp rated engine with the same block and LU.

Best source for parts is Franz Marine but sometimes there are parts at ebay.

BTW I have a 1974 60Hp and a 1977 65Hp myself, both has Mag II ignition!!!

Great information, thank you so much. This 60hp never gave my father a lick of trouble.. I'm hoping that a good cleaning of any deposits and new plugs as well as fresh non ethanol gas will make it run right. I think I read somewhere else about avoiding idle to full throttle runs.
