60 HP MPH ?

Gentlemen I have a 1990 60 HP Johnson<br />Compression is 116, 115,117<br />Stock prop<br />Has not been tuned in about 5 years<br />What is the max MPH I should be getting ? I am getting about 43 MPH.<br />How much more will a better prop get me ?<br /><br />Thanks

That would depend on what kind of RPM you are pulling now and if you can go to a higher pitch prop and still be in the target RPM range for you motor.

Now it's my turn to ask some questions.What is your rpm at WOT?What lenghth ,style ,and weight boat is it pushing?Stock prop?Diameter and pitch of prop currently using?Is motor mounted at optimal height on transom?Now with all that out of the way,43 mph sounds pretty decent for a 60 hp pushing anything longer than a Dexter surfboard.

I get 38mph out of my 50hp on smooth water. 43 might be about right with a good sized boat.
