I've got a 60 hp mercury that the warning horn is sounding continous when the key is turned on. It sounds with the key in the on position and it does not stop when the motor is started. If I remove the oil sensor switch from the oil tank it shuts off? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. The motor is not hot and the oil tank is full. I thought that maybe the overheat sensor might be faulty, but why would the horn stop with the oil sensor removed from the oil tank? thanks in advance

Is it a beep...beep....beep or is it a solid beep?
If it is a constant beep it is most likely a bad alarm module. If it is beep....beep...beep it is most likely the float inside the oil tank. This is non serviceable and you will need to buy a new tank. Take the tank off and turn it upside down...if the float is bad, this will stop the intermittant beep. Good luck

Bob

Take the oil tank off and check upside down per north40 instruction. He helped me with same problem. I seemed to have slow beep with low oil and solid beep with completely out of oil. Hope it is tank, fairly easy fix,(new tank). Your symptoms very similar to mine.
