I am aquiring a 1980 200 ccp aquasport and am going to redo and repower it. 20 degree deep v,20 foot center console. I am replacing the transom before the repower. 200 max hp on the hull 25inch motor

I was looking a a mid 90s evinrude or johnson.
I was wondering if I would be better off with the 150 or 175 60 degree motor or should I go with the 200 90 degree motor? Would the lighter weight of the 60 degree be better.

I really cannot afford the e-tec I want but that might be a option when the restoration is complete. But I will cross that rode with the wife if I can :D

Measure the boat. If it is at least 20' long, Max Hp is a guideline, not the law. You can exceed it. I wouldn't, considering the boat's designed stress considerations. But guess what? You're redoing the transom anyhow. Beef it up. Then you're kinda unlimited. ;)

My bet is that the 60d 175 would outperform the 90d 200, even if the weights were the same.

how long are you planning on keeping it. if it's a forever bit the bullet and power it the way you really want it. if it's a year or 2, be conservative. just bought a 1979 Bonita Deep V bow rider. i plan on keeping this one. just got the floor in today. got 2 boats for sale, so i can get the power i really want.
