Widen and find a way to make it stronger to handle the extra power.

How much HP is the hull rated for?

Exactly my question ondarvr. Consider what you want to do for a second. You want to double the horsepower rating of the boat. That, from my layman point of view, would mean doubling the structural integrity of the boat, the whole boat. I am not a marine engineer, but I bet it is not as simple as modifying the transom to except another engine. In order to be safe the whole boat would have to be refitted to stand the stresses. I am not saying it is not possible, but it may mean a major amount of work to get it done. Ever consider a small H.P. kicker engine?

well i know that i wouldnt be flying around at break neck speeds all the time. only when the conditions allowed IE flat minor chop water, in the bays or rivers. also i dont see why i would have to reenfore the whole boat, it seems that wether i am going 45 or 65 mph if ihit a big wave the same stress will be on the boat hull. ive done a few restores but nothing like adding another engine so if that is the case then i must rethink my logic...too bad to put one of those 175s to waste if the evinrude runs well.

You need counter rotation, too.

Do you plan on going 45mph in that boat with that setup? Have you tested it?

Also, like they've said, you might want to find out the rating for the transom. Back in the mid to late 80's a lot of the coal miners around here had more money than sense. To make a long story short, they would put 300hp engines on these bass boats just because they wanted the speed. You don't know how many times as a kid I saw a bass boat on the dock with a mangled transom, and the back quarter of the boat ripped off of a Stratos on one occasion. I'd ask my old man what it was from and he'd say "Either a hot head, or a hot foot."

All I'm saying is to make sure the boat is rated for the torque and power. If not you might end up just wasting your time, money, and safety for a couple hour joy ride.
