my motor has decided to start introducing some gremlins into the system and i am jsut about after getting rid on them all except 1 has me stumped.

It'll idle all day long, but once underway and throttling up it'll bury itself and stumble around. Now when this happens bumping the choke and squeezing the fuel bulb doesn't make a bit of difference. Now the carbs have been off and gone through twice and new kits were added last year, even passageways done with wire.. Now i can confirm good spark using a spark gap tester and the vent is open and new fuel lines and filter.

This evening i drove to the slipway and left the boat on the trailer in the water. Again it starts fine ,idles fine , upto half throttle is fine , after that it bogs. Awaiting a new tach so don't know exact rpms. But while i had it at WOT ,choke or bulb made no difference so i'm ruling out fuel pump. I did a spark drop test (in water with pliers,is so not a good idea, but better than hanging off the stern with a spinning flywheel in my face) and when i pulled No.1 the rpms dropped, pulled no2. it stalled. Restarted it and then pulled no 3 and again stalled.

I am sure the carbs are clean and am going to swap 1+3 to prove thisi to myself... reeds are ok ....

that's the best info i can provide so if anyone thinks they have a solution or idea please feel free to help a poor, end of his tether, at wits end , thinking of burning this motor ,OMC fAN....:)

oh forgot to add that compresssion is 110-108-110

# 1 sounds weak. Have you done a compression test on it ??

Can't really check that until new tach arrives, so can someone confirm that a 1990 60hp has a SLOW mode function please...

Re: 60hp 1990 running problems

ok so I think i have discovered what may be the issue. whilst messing about I seem to have connected the tan wire from the sensor in the head into the old wiring from the now not used VRO... and the tan wire from the powerpack connected to the other part of the wiring in the loom. So i now have the temp wire connected to the Powerpack , and will pop off to the river in the morning to see if the issue was that... thanks guys ,it's always the small things that get overlooked ..

we have a winner!!! It must have been going into SLOW as the changing of the tan wires has solved the issue. Now one other question, I now have the temp sensor connected directly to the tan wire from the P/P. I also have a male and female connector with a tan wire in the loom. If i ground the wiring loom female connector the overheat horn sounds, if i do this with the P/P tan i get nothing.

So should the sensor be hooked to the wire than sounds the horn???

thanks Guys.
