I have a 2002 60HP Mercury 4 Stroke carburated outboard and I am curious what the pro and cons are....of the carburated motor vs. the new (EFI) fuel injected Mercury motors? Are there any advantages of the older carburated models? I am trying to decide whether to upgrade to the EFI 60HP 4 Sroke. Thanks for your time. Casey

I dont no if it would be worh the extra $$$. Fuel injection is great as far as starting acceleration and smoothness. The thing I like is I was talking to a merc mechanic he said all you have to do with winterizing the fuel system is drain the sump on the fuel pump and use stabil of course. no more worries of dirty gummed up carbs.Your motor is fairly new and is fourstroke sounds like a nice motor. If you have room to go with more ponies, it might be more worth while.

Based on your situation I'd stick to what you have.
The carb engines can be fixed by anyone and anywhere. Not sure where you boat, but if an EFI component failed and you were far from civilization, your boat is out of commission until a replacement is flown in or somehow gets there. With a carb motor, most anything is fixable, and/or the small OB shop can get you going again quickly.
Nothing wrong with them, just not enough difference to justify the cost to upgrade.
Wait for your next motor to take the plunge.
