60hp sea king id. problems

I'm trying to find a service manual, but I can't find anything for my motor(GG18746B). I can find what ends with 'A', and 'C', but not 'B'. I don't get it. Can someone help me?
Also, Where can I find a good manual?

I don't get it either. "A" is a 1961, "C" is a 1962. I can't find any mention of a "B". However, chances are that whatever the difference it is small. outboardbooks.com has the factory literature. They sell them here at iboats also.

EDIT: Wards usually codes the model year in their serial numbers. Look for something like "16X" which would be a 1961, or "26X" which would be a 1962. Note that it's the year (62) reversed (26).

Good tip on the year. Mine says '26x' which would make it a '62.

As you may know these motors are very similar to the Evinrude Johnson and Gale motors of the same year.My aftermarket service manual all are listed in the same chapter.It lists 2 62 motors 18745B same as Gale 60DE13B I believe a short shaft and a 187446C same as Gale 60DEL13B a long shaft.61 has no A suffix.

I prefer to believe the original factory Gale books. Monkey Wards 60hp models listed are:
1960: GG-8850A
1961: GG-18746A, GG18747A, GG18748A, GG-18749A
1962: GG-18746C, GG-18747C, GG-18478C, GG-18749C
1963: GG-18807A, GG-18808A, GG-18807B, GG-18808B

Well, my eyes didn't deceive me, I triple checked and it is GG18746B.
The boat (14' Sea King) is a 1964 and is rated for 50 hp. It was my understanding that it was the original motor. Of course this might not be true. But maybe it has something to do with it all. I know Sea King switched to Chrysler around this time.
One more thing. I have milky gearcase oil. If it ends up being a leak, and I decide to replace the seals, will I need any special tools?
If I change out the oil & plug seal every time, will it get me by?
Are rebuilt gearcases hard to come by?

Not denying that the "B" exists, just can't find any Gale documentation on it. Actually, I don't see enough model numbers for all the variations offered. I don't even know if Monkey Ward even offered all the variations. The Gale-branded line was offered in manual start, electric start, and electric start with generator. Long and short shaft versions of each.

There are lots of used gearcases around. In fact, you have one. Question is are they any good?

Tell ya what, I wouldn't freak out over the gear lube. Change it and see what happens. It could be a nimor leak or it could turn out to be a big one. If you are going to change the water pump it would be an opportune time to change the drive shaft seal also. You can do the prop shaft seal anytime without tearing anything else apart. The shift rod seal is the only one requiring major disassembly.

i hav a seaking with the same model number. i am wanting to know the firin order and general maintenace information for this. i also am looking for a wiring diagram. any help would be appreciated.

Do you really have the same model number?
I took a gamble and ordered a manual for the closest for my year.
I don't have it in front of me, but I may be able to help you if you don't already have your answers.

Firing order is 1-2-3-4. #1 is the highest one, #2 is next down, on other bank, and so on.....
