60's/70's OMC 15 hp.

I have never seen one of these, was there only the 18 hp? How come Boat manufactures list a early 70's that weights only 65 lb.? I know also that some of the 1974 on up classic 9.9/15's had the older type lower unit.

The 9.5hp came in at about 60 pounds. The 1974-up 15 was about 70 pounds (short shaft, rope start)

Maybe you are looking at a Gale 15 or a J/E work/commercial motor? But they are well over 65 pounds

There was a late 60s 15 hp built. Probably an oddball built on leftover parts and not that common.

They marketed a 14 hp " commercial "l model for a number of years.----Was the 9.9 / 15 HP power head that you are very familiar with.-----But used the 18 . / 20 / 25 hp split style lower unit and exhaust housing.----They do this to clear out old inventory as you also well know.

I don't ever recall seeing 9.9/15 hp powerheads on any midsections that used split gearcases.
Maybe it was done in some of the Overseas 3rd World Markets

This one is being advertised for sale locally as a long shaft. But I think it is a short shaft.

I do not see the 5" spacer.----And many folks / sellers still misunderstand the concept of long and short on these things.

In the future, when someone says they a 14hp, I won't be trying to straighten them out insisting such a critter does not exist

I do not believe it is 14 HP.------Just marketed with a 14 HP decal !!!
