Hey guys. I just scored an old evinrude 5.5 HP fisherman with a serial number of 5520-12772. I can't find any info when searching that serial number, a google search results nothing. It starts first pull and hammers down in my 55 gal drum! The thing may be an antique but I plan to run the crap out of it as long as she'll give me!!! I'd just like proper info to further service and maintain it down the road. Thanks

I got it for $100. I was blown away when it fired right up AND spit water. The thing is immaculate under the hood too, hoses and wires look great! Soft and pliable, not dry rotted. If I didn't know better I'd say it was recently gone through up and down. Beats the **** outta my last headache, an 80's gamefisher by Tecumseh for sears.

As you say though, parts like the impeller are why I'm in search for specific info relating to the only ID info I can find, that serial number.

Thanks for the help y'all. Unfortunately it'd seem impeller replacement on this particular motor is a pita, having to remove the power head opposed to just the lower unit. Ah well. Evinrude must have known what they were doing cause this 50+ year old machine is still running solid!

" New " does not mean " better "----Very obvious with these quality motors from the 1950's

It is not a big deal pulling the powerhead, don't get discouraged by it, takes only minutes. We can help if you get stuck. (literally sometimes! )\

Actually, a couple threads going right now you should read through regarding this. parts are still very easy to get for your motor.

Racerone, this I know! Lol! Sought out and found an old style all metal sawzall when in the market. Used and beat and still cutting strong! Same with my dads hand-me-down craftsman circular saw! Got my 70's Ariens snowblower still blasting snow better and more consistently than my neighbors new model. My '84 Chevy, don't make em like they use to! My '86 3 wheeler, recently sold my 84 snow mobile, and the list of my classics goes on and on :) I love my dusty relics!

HighTrim, I'm certainly up for any mechanical challenge and a learning process. I built the motor for my car in my kitchen. When the going gets tough, I always remind myself it's got 30k miles on it and still going strong! :)

Y'all a great bunch! Helped me last year with my POS gamefisher and here y'are again. Thanks!
