On my 61 lark there is a lever that rides on top of the flywheel that connects to a sorta rocker arm that pushs in and out on a spring loaded valve on top of each cylinder. What does this gizmo do.? I think it is a compression release to make for easy starting. If so can the adjustment of the valve screw affect the compression during a compression check?thanks

Re: 61 lark question

it is a compression relief, for when you are rope starting, does not effect electric starting. it is connected to the recoil, not the flywheel.

Re: 61 lark question

It will give false readings if you are trying to do a compression check with the recoil starter. Disable it by removing the stainless steel bar across the top before doing a compression check.

The adjustment screws in the rockers should not contact the valves when recoil is retracted. I forget the clearance specs....015"???
