63 evinrude 18hp carb removal

Tried to start my new to me 63 18hp evinrude yesterday to no avail. I fugured that I would be rebuilding the carb after I saw that the fuel filter was completely varnished. Thought I would try it anyway. The only way she would start was full throttle with the low idle jet all the way in, even then it would only run for a few seconds. I have the factory service manual, but the instructions are a little vague on carb removal. I have the choke lever off and the throttle likage. How do I remove the low idle likage valve arm and the high idle adjustment knob. Do these just pull off? Also had to remove evey visable nut on the starter to be able to reach the left nut on the carb to motor mount. Where is tje remaning nut for the starter? Thanks guys

Remove the two screws from the silencer (I think they call it a carburetor linkage support), and let it dangle. Pull the link arm off the slow speed needle.

I assume you must have an electric start? Did you get the bolt at the bottom of the bracket? It comes in from the rear.

Once that is out of the way, you can remove the nuts from the carburetor, pull it forward till it clears the studs, then to the rear to slip the slow speed needle from the silencer. Disconnect the gas line and choke wire if there is one, and the carb should be in your hands.

Sorry it does have a eletrick starter. What about the high idle jet? Does the outside knob have to come off as well.

By high idle jet, I assume you mean the high speed needle? Sorry, I neglected to mention that one because most motors don't have one...but yours does. Yes, just pull the knob off. Sometimes things are easier if you also pop the rubber grommet out of the shroud, but not absolutely necessary.
