63 mercury cant find reverse

this is my first boat it has a 65hp mercury 650 motor the cables either need replaced or adjusted but i cant find reverse on it i was wondering if any one knew where i can find instructions on the internet hopefully for free

Welcome to iboats, Mercman.<br />Have you had the prop off? This motor (i think) has a sheer pin, as opposed to a rubber hub for l/u protection. Many times, a sheer pin will sheer as it is designed to do, but the pieces will then act as a ratchet of sorts, allowing the prop to spin freely in one direction, and catch in the other.<br />Check it out. If the sheer pin comes out in three pieces,as opposed to one, there ya go.<br />Got me fingers crossed (cheap fix).
