Just fired up my grandfather's '63 Mercury "60"<br />a 6hp outboard that had been stored since 1980.<br /> Owners manual has oil mix at 16oz of SAE30 or SAE40 non detergent per 2 gals of gas unless I'm using Merc Formula 2 Quicksilver,then it's 12oz per 2 gals of gas.<br /> I used Penzsoil 2 cycle oil at 16oz/2gals, results; lots of blue smoke when running and a pretty good oil slick on the water in the test tub. <br /> Question, with todays improved oil, is there a different mix ratio to use without engine damage and less smoke . <br /> Serial # 1582447-Merc 60-twin cyl-6hp-short shaft
