'64 Evinrude 75hp Steering Connection

My steering rod is attached to the motor with a good 'ol nut and bolt. This can't be safe. The motor manual doesn't get into this. How is it supposed to be connected? A ball joint? Anyone with photos?<br /><br />classicboater<br /><br />WOW, my apprenticeship is over, I'm a full fledged seaman!!

SEAMAN!!!! Listen up!! <br /><br />The good 'ol nutn'bolt is not really good. A stainless clivis is the way to go. I'll see if I can post a pic or to for ya' so you can better understand the parts.<br /><br />OK....at ease.
