64 johnson 5.5 help

i got this motor in pieces and finally got it together but its is hard to pull start, the motor isnt locked up any ideas what it can be thanks for your time

If you're saying that the engine is very hard to turn over such as grabbing the flywheel with your hands and turning it..... drop the lower unit to determine if the problem is a dragging lower unit or if you've assembled something incorrectly.

You don't explain if your problem is as above or if the engine cranks over normally (rotates) but simply won't start.

If you by any chance resurfaced the sealing surfaces of the crankcase halves excessively, that would apply pressure to the crankshaft. If this isn't the type problem you're having, it will require a more defined explanation.

pull down lower unit and take it out and see if it helps.

i didnt do nothing to the powerhead i guess i'll have to remove the powerhead to drop the lowerunit and see if that helps i will let u know how it goes thanks

when putting together everything went smooth it shifts f n r no problem

You said that you got the engine in pieces.... that leads us to think you had to put the powerhead together, etc. It would eliminate guesswork on our part if you went into detail somewhat as to the exact problem.

the entire motor was in pieces except the powerhead when i got it all together its hard to pull the rope i droped the lower unit and now its easier must be something in the gears i wil take it back apart and try again any ideas
