I installed a new water pump kit and lower unit seal kit on my motor and I was wondering if I need to replace the thermostat as well. It just seems that the motor is running hot to the touch but I have not had a problem while running it. Is this normal for this engine? Thanks

Don't know particulars on your engine but I know that some engines run 120 to 143F stats. With that the water could reach 5-10 degrees above that.

The Normal setting on most USA domestic household hot water heaters is 140 F if that gives you any idea.

My experiences: Just because you change the stat the new one won't fail....wrong.

Just because you don't change the stat it will fail.....not necessarily.

It is a 143 degree thermostat so the head is warm enough, for sure. But you should be able to keep your fingers on it for a count of three. If the pump is running well, you will have a constant spitting of water out of the exhaust relief at the back of the lower engine cover. That flow will vary in temperature as the thermostat cuts in and out.

Ok good, I am able to hold my hand on the head without getting to hot. I would guess it to be about what you state at 140 deg. Thanks fella's
