i was given a1974 3 cylinder motor was runing when parked 10 years ago . still on the boat. have a 74 85hp the hood is different. band on the 85 .65 hp has a split cover . would the piston in the 65 fit the 85 or there any other parts that will interchange.<br /> ps he gave me the boat@traylor to.no name on the boat it is a v botom alunimon 16 ft. i figur it worth puting tires on and puling home.thanks for any info on parts exchange. i have learned a lot just reading the post on this site.thanks to all .papasage

If I'm not mistaken, the 65hp triple was 3/4 of the 80/85hp four-cylinder. Merc was into modularity of design and I beleive the pistons & rods from the 65 (3-cylinder) will fit the 85 (four cylinder), at least on a year-by-year basis. I'd double check with a dealer if you can talk them into letting you check the parts list, or you can look at www.mercruiserparts.com cross-reference the part numbers...<br />- Scott
