I would first check and see if your points are cleaned and adjusted properly. Gap should be .020. You'll see an arrow on your cam. Just line it up with the heel of the points that ride on the cam.

Also, check the coils over and make sure the insulation isn't cracked, because they leak out on the plate, when this happens and you loose spark.
If the coils look good, then swap condensors and see if you get spark on the opposite cylinder.

Let us know what you find.

First of all, welcome to the forum. Here is a couple of links of good reading for your motor!!

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=294072 (points, condensors and coils)

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=338579 (removing the flywheel)

http://www.sschapterpsa.com/ramblings/OMC_6hp.htm (great article by the Machinist)

http://forums.iboats.com/forumdisplay.php?f=31 (Frequently asked questions and answers)

Would suggest getting a manual for your motor for good reference and good maintenance. (It is really a must and 20 to 30 dollar spend for nothing compared to savings of doing it yourself and most of all correctly)

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=301361

You will need a torque wrench to tighten the flywheel nut (40 to 45 foot pounds of pressure) Torque wrench can be gotten at Napa, Harbor Freights, Auto Zone for about 25 bucks or they may even loan you one with a refundable deposit.

You will need a feeler guage to gap your points to 0.20 (can get at same stores as above for 5 or 6 bucks)

Parts can be gotten here on iboats

Good luck my friend!!

Re: 65 seahorse 6hp

Ok i got the flywheel off and points looked good not sure about gap dont have a gauge yet. looked the same and i know that the top one is firing , when i swapped the condensors the spark stayed on top, so that lets me know that the condensors are good. when i took one of the condensors off there was a unknown liquid (i assumed oily water) under the condensor, not much just a drop or two but you said something about the coil leaking?? that might be the problem. where could i get a coil.

also i talked to my Brother-in-law and he said that the motor used to run and would run great for 100 yrds or so and then quit after it would sit for a min or two then would run for another 100 yrds. any suggestions on that??

lastly what would the gas/oil mixture be
thanks

Gas/oil ratio is 50:1 (basically 8 oz TCW-3 2cycle oil to 3gallon of gas) or (16 oz TCW-3 2cycle oil to 6 gallon of gas)

Here is a link to purchase a coil here on iboats...very good pricing

http://www.iboats.com/mall/partfind...gd_poid=109172&gd_row=32&**********=499588836

http://www.iboats.com/Johnson-Ignit...0589796--**********.499588836--view_id.271400 (has other makes of coils and different pricing)

http://www.iboats.com/Johnson-Outbo...0589796--**********.499588836--view_id.271265 (link for coils, condensers, points, and etc...)

Please be sure to torque the flywheel nut properly or you could shear the key and cause more problems.
