67 ford Formula T Bird

Every time I hook up battery it arcs and motor turns over. not start but cranks. battery terminals turn red. key is off, boat is new to me. What do I need to do?

Cylinoid is stuck. Should be an easy fix, but Ive no idea what motor/starter you have.

even with the key in the off position?

it is a ford 351 motor I am told

If it's a 351 in a 67 boat it isn't original. And if it's not original, there could be a lot of possibilities for problems.
I don't think the 351 was even available in cars until 68..and then it was a different 351.

Disconnect both battery wires and the yellow wire from the starter solenoid and with an ohm meter check for continuity between the two large post, if there is continuity change the solenoid, if no continuity, reinstall the yellow wire and test again, if you have continuity now the ignition switch is faulty or the yellow wire has shorted to 12 volts somewhere.

if not a 351 ford motor. then what? the numbers on the valve cover are rusted and gone. is there a secondary place to find model numbers.

don't know what to tell you about IDing it. Is the distributor in the front or at the rear of the engine? Fords are in front, Chevys in rear. What brand of drive is it?
