I have a 67 Glassmaster with the 67 Chrysler 55 HP 55771, It runs and everything but just a little rought and needs a little tune up. I was wondering what everyones opinion is on parts. I was wondering what the best type of spark plugs to use and where I can get good points, contacts, condensers, and coils at? Thanks in advance!

Let's see--Spark plugs: If I remember correctly, Champion no longer makes the original plug used (L4J) but there are close equivalent ones both Champion and other brands. L4J NGK B8S; Ac M42FF: Autolite:2635

Tune up parts should still be available either through Sierra, Old outboards, or franzmarine at the Chrysler Crew.

Thanks for the information!

iboats has the tune up parts but I'm not sure which kit will fit it. The model number is 55771 and the cover for the motor says Chrylser 55 Alternator, but the motor just has a magneto charging system so I'm really not sure what kits fits it.

Also what voltage do the coils run? 30,000 40,000 50,000 60,000 volts?

Also the key for flywheel was sheared..anyone know where I can get a key like that?

Thanks for the help!!

Magneto coils are probably quite a bit lower than electronic ignition. They will not fire electronic ignition surface gap plugs at idle. They have their lowest voltage at start and idle and voltage rises as speed does. If I had to guess, I would say 10-20,000 volts--but I could be wrong.

Your local Merc dealer should be able to get the key. I bought two at the beginning of this season. If they try to tell you they can't get it, explain that the same key was used on all early 35,45, and 55 hp engines of which Chrysler made billions. Then try Franz at franzmarine. I'm sure he will have them. As a matter of fact, try Franz first. At least you won't get a run-around.
