Well carp man, I am blaming Jason, Ez, fshngo, Pugetsound and all you other Starcraft frea... ummmm lovers for the shape that my boat is now currently in.
100_0223.jpg

My engine hoist would not go high enough to clear the transom and this was the result.
100_0226.jpg

And here it the work horse that is out, not sure what is going to go back in though.
100_0237.jpg

Found this after I removed the remainder of the outdrive, kind of sucks.
100_0242.jpg

This is my helper Jack, he drops his ball through the outdrive hole and then barks at me to throw it for him. He also just sits there and watches me till I come out and play with him. Kind of creepy when you are working and you feel like you are being watched and find out you are.

Re: Well I did it now!

Just got the cuddy bulkhead out and starting to tear up the floor. As you can see I have a ton of ummmm stuff yea that is it, in there.
100_0248.jpg

This is the wood under the cuddy window that goes from port to starboard. It looks like the window or something is leaking in the corner, will have to check when I can get to it.
100_0239.jpg

The other side of the same piece of wood as above. It is not quit as bad but still not looking great.
100_0240.jpg

Well this does not look to promising looking at the foam. Kind of expected it but still kind of stinks.

Re: Well I did it now!

Have more of the deck off and started pulling some foam out here as you can see. There are a ton of pieces of that dang white foam and I hate it to begin with and now have to get rid of it.
100_0241.jpg

Well I do believe that the old gentleman that sold me the boat lied to me now. He said that it was a dry boat and did not leak, so I took his word at it:facepalm:. Oh well, not much I can do about it now except to go on.
100_0238.jpg

Looks as if the old timer has some little buddies using this boat as a live aboard at one time as well. This was the second mouse nest I found and about half the size of the first one.
100_0247.jpg

And the crappy job of the carpet that was applied to the cuddy as well. This is what remains, I just grabbed the carpet and slightly pulled and it all came off thank goodness. It was some really ugly stuff and not put up well at all, the foam left from the carpet just scraps right off with a plastic putty knife. So this should be easy cleanup I hope.

Well Alright Kelly!! Thanks for the compliment, kinda nice to be included with such a great crowd, and no need for the thanks, its our pleasure. Trust me buddy, you will be happier knowing the boat is in good shape when your done. It is obvious you had trouble heading your way if left unchecked. Don't worry about the tenants (mice) you have, we all found stuff that surprised us... Keep going and post the pics, we..err, I mean you are going to love the adventure.:D

Re: Well I did it now!

Well it has been hard for me to get going that is for sure. I just cannot handle the cold like I used to. All it takes is a stiff breeze and I am shivering and shaking anymore and don't even want to be outside when I am like that.

Yea it is a mess that is for sure. I have everything out now except for the white foam boards and that will be next weekend. Yea Jack is a goof ball, but he is my bud and does bout everything with me. He is 125 lbs and did try to crawl through the OD hole, it was funny.

Yea I agree with you PS. Just been to blinking cold for me to be out unless I had to. I am sure that it is going to clean up well, just not looking forward to that part is all.

NB good to hear from you buddy, hope all is going better for you now my friend. And you are also on the TO BLAME LIST as well bud:cool:

Yea I agree with you as for knowing the boat is in good shape. Yea I think there would have been all kinds of problems had I not started to dig into it. The mice are no longer there, have not been there since I have had the boat. Not found any signs of them anyway till now.

I have the boat completely gutted except for the white foam in the bottom, just ran out of light yesterday. I could not believe what I got done in 2 days though, I was impressed with myself for a change:eek:. Also could not believe how many rivets I had to drill out to get the stupid thing apart either. So there is going to be a pneumatic riveter in my hands before I go putting things back together. Have my first toy to add to the boat already as well. I now have a Lowrance Elite 5 Gold fish finder/GPS unit:cool:. Wife said I could pick one out for Christmas and we went and picked it out last week:D I will try and keep up on pics as it goes, but it is going to be slow that is for sure. If I had a heated garage to work in that would be different but I don't so doing any epoxy or any floor covering or even gluvite is going to have to wait till warm weather:(. And I hope that the Teleflex steering is easy to put together cause it came apart really easy:facepalm:. Time will tell fellers, time will tell.

Re: Well I did it now!

Looks like progress at the Kelly house. I?m sure Jack will be able to give you a hand or just moral support when needed. Might be good company as well. I?m just a little north of you and it?s been cold here too. Matter of fact we had some snow the other day and it?s melting very slowly. Most winter we don?t even get snow, just rain. Let us know how water socked that foam is because the looks like stock foam and the same as I have. One step at a time and before you know it, she will be done and you will be fishing out of her.
When I pulled my motor I had a strong buddy lift it out by hand. Strong like bull, smart like tractor.;)

That's outstanding. Love the pic of Jack looking through the outdrive hole. It's a hobby. Never put a time limit on a hobby, it turns it into work.

Get some large yard size trash bags, break up that foam and send it to the land fill. As soon as you get it out of your way, things start looking up.

Way to go Kelly. Nice progress in a short amount of time. Looking forward to this. I'd suggest you consider keeping everything even the foam untill you passed that "put back together" phase...Templates....

Yes it is a hobby and it is also something that I have to do now but not going to rush it. I wanted a big boat and got one without shelling out the $90K for the one we were looking at. Yuppers Jack is my best bud and wants to go everywhere with me and I like it.
I have everything out and it is all in the garage except for the foam which I will remove this next weekend.

The only thing that I am not saving for templates is the foam. I do not want that nasty stuff anywhere near me after I get it out. I do not need it for a template as it is just in a ton of pieces now, so off to landfill with it.

Re: Well I did it now!

Yea I just kind of sunk my teeth into it and away I went. It went a lot faster than I thought it would, especially with all of Jack's help:facepalm:. But that is ok as well. Once cleaned it is going to be slow going since I need warm weather for epoxy, glue, paint, gluvit and of course fingers. Yea call me a wuss but I really really hate being cold. Being cold is worse than having the flu for me, would actually rather be at work than work on the boat outside in the cold:eek:. So yea the old smelly stuff will be removed on my weekend this week providing it is not to cold to be out. Did I mention that I don't like the cold?

You better not whine too much about that white foam. djpeters or North Beach might come for you....

Glad you've gotten started on the rebuild.

Re: Well I did it now!

Hey guys I have a question about painting. I have seen people discuss tip and roll painting, but for the life of me I cannot find exactly what it means. Could someone please let me know what this means, and yes sometimes I am a little slow to grasp the subject but I do get it eventually. Just trying to figure things out in advance and trying to get things bought before I actually need them.

Re: Well I did it now!

The term tip and roll means take your roller and spread the paint out then go over it with a paint brush (tip) to smooth it out The brush will knock down the roller texture and the paint will lay flat and have a chance to dry nice and smooth.
