Been looking all day with no luck so far...nobody carries this starter anymore... is there a starter I can order then change the top mount out and make it work? The alternative is send it to Mi to get rebuilt for 200 bucks! The oem number is supposed to be 50-47216..or 97949A although the original has 2 28..then its burnt off from there over....rats!

Since it doesn't work anyway take it apart and check the brushes and end cap - the brushes might be available from Mercury or a starter shop and cleaning up the brush dust will help.

It melted down...the copper wire is all in tact but the plastic stuff that holds it in place is just gone...I think they just didnt have enough ground maybe....Its way smaller than any starter I ve ever seen...Ive been able to swap out top brackets before...(rare but it can happen....jut hoping somebody might know one that might do just that....
