Just putting things back together after my last post...and mother's day supper...

My seloc book shows a gasket between the top of the lower unit and where the bottom impeller plate meet. I cant find any other reference to it or parts that would match it. I used blue gasket maker in that spot last time. I'm just finishing re-sealing the l/u. I also have some GOOD Catepillar brand gasket maker that can hold up to a bit more than the stand-by blue stuff.

Do I need to find that gasket?? I was getting H20 in the l/u, and could see evidence of my l/u in the lake. Could this be the culprit? I was betting my money on the shift rod o-ring.

Thanks for the help.

No gasket goes on either side of the plate. However, they do say to use some sealer under the plate. Most anything will do, it's not critical. The purpose is to keep the pump from sucking exhaust bubbles and has nothing to do with gearcase leakage.

Thank you FR

You've helped me in the past...I appreciate it.

I was just assembling the water pump and noticed there was a small cut in one of the impeller vanes. I'm not sure what could have caused it, but regardless I ordered a new one to replace it. Might as well. I replaced the entire pump housing and plate last year.

Thanks again.

F_R, are you sure there's no gasket under the water pump plate? there is on earlier models?
