my dad and i recently bought a 1968 merc 1000 100HP and put it on our boat. we were told of something wrong with the impeller but were wernt shure because we have never replaced one before. the problem is that no water comes out the pee hole when the motor is in water. is there anyother way to troubleshoot besides replacing the impeller or removing the lower unit? We were thinking that it may be a clogged hose or something else like that? What can we do to check if there is a clogged hose or know for sure that the impeller needs to be relplaced?

Thank you for your comments

im not sure how the older motors work, but maybe you could submerge the lower unit, then pump compressed air down through from the tell tale outlet, if you get bubbles in the water that would say there is no blockage, but like i said, i dont know these old mercs at all. just an idea, my 2 cents, take it for what its worth!

i would do everything i can on a motor that old, just to add to my previous thing. plugs, filters, impeller, bottom end oil, best safe then stranded. these are all annual things, that dont cost a lot to keep a motor going.
