I recently purchased a boat with a non-running Merc 650 motor SN# 2450736. This motor has the "Lightning Energizer Breaker-Less Ignition" ignition driver setup. According to the wiring diagram in the factory service manual this motor has no stator under the flywheel. Do the coils in the ignition driver also generate current to recharge the battery? Unfortunatly the factory book is a little short on explaining the workings of the various systems. Coming from an auto tech background and being used to auto factory manuals that tell everything there is to know on a given system, I was a little disapointed. Guess I better pick up an aftermarket manual to go along with it. I need to rebuild the carbs and fuel pumps before starting the motor, just curious about the charging system. Thanks for any insight.
